Fitting In
January 12 – March 22, 2012

This dynamic three artist group exhibit features the work of Etty Horowitz (TX), Shana Kaplow (MN), and Scott Seekins (MN). Fitting In explores ways in which community is formed and indentifies the various role of the individual in reaction to societal norms.

The notion of “fitting in” or “standing out” is confronted by the artists and explores the relationship between striving for extreme individuality while gravitating towards interactions with others. This exhibit brings to light the place where individuality and community coincide - that which enables people to build communities, commit themselves to each other and to knit the social fabric.

The 60's Generation is Turning 60+, lecture by Lucy Rose Fischer
Sunday, January 22, 2pm

Nearly half a century ago, the generation of the 60’s, the vanguard of the Baby Boomers, asserted a youth-oriented culture. This was a generation of protest-defying authority, breaking rules, and hoping to change the world. This lecture explores the question, “what happens to a youth-promoting generation when old age creeps up?” The Baby Boom generation, in every age, has made waves. Now, perhaps, this generation of old hippies and old protesters will create an age-boom, pointing to a new old-age.

Exhibits by local artist Susan Weinberg
Eiger-Zaidenweber Holocaust Resource Center
Sabes JCC Second Floor

Susan’s work explores Jewish identity, and asks the question of who will tell Jewish history, especially that of the Holocaust, for future generations. Her work has taken her on a personal journey to Lithuania and Poland, where she discovered a shared past with Dora Zaidenweber, once a resident of Radom, Poland. This journey led her to interview Jewish Minnesotans who survived the Holocaust, whose stories she has interpreted in her paintings.
