JCC MACCABI ARTSFEST® EXHIBIT

In the Health & Wellness Exhibition Area
“I have discerned that the energy, enthusiasm, and idealism of youth, coupled with this generation’s ease in working with digital tools, can produce significant photographic expression.” So says professional photographer Lloyd Wolf, and now young photographers who developed their skills in a workshop with Wolf at JCC Maccabi ArtsFest® last summer will be exhibiting their work at Sabes JCC on March 25, 2009. Teenagers traveled with Wolf to areas around Washington, D.C., Fairfax, Virginia, and Minneapolis, Minnesota and took photographs of adults and children in conjunction with the theme of L’dor v’dor, generation to generation and Tov L’Hodot, it’s good to give thanks.. The experience was so successful that JCC Association organized a traveling exhibition.
JCC Maccabi ArtsFest®, hosted by the Sabes JCC, was supported locally by the Minneapolis Jewish Federation, the Jon and Judith Harris Foundation, the Daniel and Phyllis Heilicher Family Philanthropic Fund, the Harry Kay Charitable Foundation, John and Kris MacDonald, Chuck & Melanie Barry, Sandy and Deborah Donaldson, Doreen Frankel and Jake Hurwitz, John Goodman, Marylee and Wayne Hanson, Elissa Heilicher, Steve and Gail Machov, McGough Construction Company, Nort and Bert Rockler, Sherry Stern and Steven Snyder, Violet Werner and many others.
Supported by the Legacy Heritage Fund, JCC Maccabi ArtsFest® is an annual program that brings teens from 13 to 17 years of age together in different communities to engage in arts workshops with renowned artists-in-residence. At the end of five days, the teens take part in a gala performance/exhibition. Some of the many arts specialties are musical theater, visual arts, dance, vocal music, and photography. Wolf’s work has appeared in numerous publications, and he has published several books, including Facing the Wall, Jewish Mothers, and Jewish Fathers. He’s taught photography at George Mason University and the Arlington County Public Schools in Virginia.
The Sabes JCC is currently looking for Jewish teens to be a part of the 2009 JCC Maccabi ArtsFest® Delegation as we head to the O.C.! Join Minneapolis and St. Paul teens as we head to Orange County, California, August 9–14 for a week of fun with 300+ teens from the United States, Canada and abroad. Jewish teens entering grades 8 through 12 are eligible to participate. Art specialties include creative writing, digital photo, jazz ensemble, dance, film and tv, and many more. In addition to daily workshops, teens will participate in evening social events culminating in a closing performance put on by all participating teens. Auditions and registration have already begun!
