FIDDLER ON THE ROOF

(ENTERING GRADES 6–12 IN FALL 2018)

Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler on the Roof’s universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.

An intensive six-week program teaches the fundamentals of theater, music, and dance – all in the process of creating a fully-staged production of the musical, Fiddler on the Roof! All participants will perform in the show and will work with professional theater artists who will coach them in the improvement of their acting, singing, and dance skills. Participants will engage in daily theater and improv games, participate in workshops such as costume make-up and set design, go swimming in the JCC’s outdoor pool, and make meaningful friendships through the theater ensemble they’ll build. Space is limited so register early.
