Volunteers are needed to help make the Minneapolis Jewish Film Festival an outstanding program for our community again during our 20th anniversary year.
Benefits include free tickets to the best in Jewish film, meeting artists and hearing great speakers. However, the real benefit is meeting new people from all walks of life and utilizing your skills to contribute to making the MJFF a fantastic event!
The majority of events will take place at the Dolly & Edward Fiterman Theatre at the Sabes JCC in St. Louis Park, MN with a handful of screenings throughout the Twin Cities.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Descriptions are brief and do not include all the possibilities but give an idea of the types of tasks in each volunteer area (some of which will overlap).
Community Partnership Development
Description: Identify, maintain database, and reach out via phone, email and possibly in person to community organizations, schools, agencies as well as other nonprofit organizations to create partnerships in promoting and sponsoring specific films. Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office is helpful.
Audience Development
Description: Identify, reach out to potential audiences for specific films and maintain outreach database. The purpose of audience development is to bring in as many patrons as possible. This could include sending out e-blasts, answering questions, promoting ticket deals and distributing information to businesses and organizations throughout the Twin Cities. Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office is helpful.
Marketing and Publicity
Description: Assist in all Film Festival marketing efforts including: Update and maintain community calendars, research emerging online calendars, update MJFF Facebook page, send e-blasts, and distribute information. Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software is helpful.
Administration
Description: Update and maintain data base of films being considered, outreach and audience development endeavors, answer patron questions, and distribute materials throughout the community. Help in the day-to-day logistics of preparing for a Film Festival. Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software is necessary.
Receptions & Special Events
Description: Prep, set out and replenish food trays, bus tables and answer guest questions. You must also be able to stand for long periods and also to be able to do some lifting. Volunteers are asked to bring a smile, a helpful attitude and an awareness of when tasks need to be done.
Ushering
Description: Meet and greet patrons, provide patrons with film information, handing out programs, checking tickets, distributing and collecting surveys, working alongside venue managers and Festival staff assisting with a broad array of responsibilities. You must also be able to stand for long periods. For many of the festival guests, you will be the first contact so friendliness is a must!
Concessions & Merchandise
Description: Promote and sell, ring up sales, maintain inventory and a secure environment. Some lifting may be required in order to replenish stock.
Volunteer Coordination & House Management
Description: Schedule, check in, coordinate all ushers for the screening, serve communication liaison and logistics coordinator with venue management, film techs, speakers etc. ensuring the screening occurs in a timely manner, manage patron seating reservations and issues, ensure space is cleared after screening. Ability to able to stand for long periods, able to do some lifting, work calmly under pressure, manage people, possess a positive attitude with leadership qualities and a strong attention to detail are all necessary. Commitment would need to be for the run of the entire film festival and previous experience in Stage and/or House management is required for this position.
Requirements: All volunteers will be required to fill out a volunteer application, participate in training and respond to emails and phone calls in a timely manner. Volunteers must be over 18. Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to their shifts and training sessions.
Dress Code for Film Events: Black on the bottom, i.e. slacks, pants, skirt and white on top, i.e. a shirt, blouse, sweater, or collared polo, and COMFORTABLE shoes, no rubber flip flops.
Benefits: Volunteers will receive access to films based on volunteered shifts along with being able to attend all public film receptions.
Placement: We’ll review your interests and skills with what our current needs are and try to find the perfect experience for you that meet the needs of the MJFF. Selected volunteers will be placed in a specific position. We’ll let you know if you have been selected, or if there are no current needs.
After you’ve been assigned a position, you’ll get a schedule or be able to sign up for shifts, receive training and serve and enjoy the Minneapolis Jewish Film Festival!
