Meet the Staff

Steve Barberio, Director
As an artist and arts administrator, Steve Barberio has produced and/or directed over 100 plays over the past 25 years. From 1988 through 2004, he was the artistic director of Stages Theatre Company in Hopkins, growing it from a small nonprofit organization into an institution serving over 100,000 people per year. He also played a pivotal role in building the Hopkins Center for the Arts, which became Stages Theatre's home in 1997. Among his many directing credits include WELLSTONE!, Jack & Rochelle: A Holocaust Story of Love and Resistance, The Merchant of Venice, Twelfth Night, Little Women, The Crucible and The Miracle Worker. He currently serves as chair of the Southern Theater Board of Directors in Minneapolis and is Past-president of the American Alliance for Theatre & Education based in Washington, D.C. A leader in the nonprofit sector for more than 20 years, Steve is a nationally recognized expert in nonprofit communications, organizational design, governance and strategic planning and serves as a Senior Leadership Consultant at the James P. Shannon Leadership Institute in St. Paul, Minnesota.
