THE HEBREW LESSON
written/performed by Esther Ouray

Thursday, September 6 and Sunday, September 9 at 7:30 pm

The Hebrew Lesson waves myth, history and humor into the story of a Hebrew school teacher and her thwarted attempt to spread her father's ashes in Jerusalem. Directed by Zaraawar Mistry and supported with live music of multicultural musicians Tim O'Keefe, Maryam Yusefzadeh, and Greg Herriges. The Hebrew Lesson is performed by Esther Ouray, an actress, puppeteer, dancer, director, teacher and cultural activist.

Each performance will be followed by a moderated discussion with the artists and audience.

Tickets: $12 General; $10 JCC members and students

Not recommended for youth.

ALEJANDRO ZIGLER TANGO QUARTET

Sunday, October 21 at 7:00pm

The Alejandro Ziegler Quartet is an ensemble of piano, violin, bangoneon, and double bass that has developed their own style of tango music, reflecting both innovation and tradition, becoming a new synthesis of the traditional tango orchestra. Founded in 2007, their repertoire includes the style of Di Sarli, Pugliese, Troilo and Gobbi among others. With their unique mix of tango, improvisation and romanticism, they have gained recognition all over the world, performing completely acoustic, dynamic masterpieces that should not be missed. Co-presented by Bataclan Tango.

Performance will be followed by an artist reception.

KATHY KOSINS presents
“To The Ladies of Cool” (Concert)

Detroit-based Kathy Kosins is an ASCAP award-winning songwriter, record producer and recognized modern abstractionist painter. Her debut CD with Resonance Records “To the Ladies of Cool” was recently released worldwide in March 2012, celebrating the artistry of Anita O’ Day, June Christy, Chris Connor, Julie London and other famous jazz female vocalists.

Yiddish Vinkl’s 20th Anniversary Concert
with Cantor Michael Smolash

Michael Smolash is the Cantor of Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, MI, which is home to one of the most vibrant Jewish worship programs in North America. Michael worked in Music Theatre across Canada for 15 years while also serving as Chazzan Sheini at Holy Blossom Temple (Toronto). His starring roles include Sparky in Forever Plaid, Billy Lawlor in 42nd Street, and Matt in The Fantasticks. Most recently, Cantor Smolash was in The Producers in Toronto, where he covered the lead role of Leo Bloom, as well as those of the entire male cast of singers, actors and dancers. We look forward to sharing his voice with you!
