Specialty Camps - Imagination Quest

Children entering grades 3-6
Cost - $275 for Sabes JCC Member / $350 for non-member

Looking for a week of fun? Imagination Quest has exactly what you want. Enjoy theater, art, science, magic, acting, and more in our one week specialty camps. Each day, campers will arrive at 9 a.m. and join Camp Olami for morning flag pole. At 9:30 a.m., Quest specialty programs begin and will last for three hours. At 12:30 p.m. we break for lunch and then head off to an afternoon of fun including swimming and other specialty areas and activities. When 3:30 p.m. rolls around, it is time to settle in with a snack, and then join our Camp Olami friends for the closing flagpole, ending with pick-up at 4 p.m.

Behind the Mask! June 23 – 27
Make amazing masks using paper mache, cardboard, clay, and gauze, and then use the masks to create and explore basic acting techniques. Campers will use their new creations with fun theater games, improvisation, and movement activities, culminating in the creation of an original theatre piece to be performed on the final day of camp.

Abracadabra! June 30 – July 3
Spend the week with a real magician. Become a master of all the tricks of the trade. Learn to stretch your imagination and transform your magic tricks into entertainment. Amaze your family and friends with the spectacular tricks you’ll learn at magic camp.

Einstein’s Laboratory July 7 – 11
Bouncing balls, spinning tops, and racing cars; what does this have to do with science? It’s all about movement. In Einstein’s Laboratory you will be learning about physics, the science of movement, by conducting many experiments. We will be using wheels and cars to learn about momentum and incline planes. We’ll make a balancing stick to learn about the center of gravity, use Slinkys and other equipment in this fun, fast paced camp.

Comedy Central July 14 –18
Pratfalls, gags, double-takes, goofy improv games, witty one-liners, sketch comedy, clowning, physical theatre, mime, ‘silent movie’ schemes and more. Learn the tricks of the comedy trade in this fantastically funny camp! Shy or scared of the stage? Don’t worry--this camp will have you jumping for the spotlight in no time. Comedy Central will teach you all of the improvisation essentials you need to make people laugh – on and off stage!

Super Scrapbooking July 21 – 25
Collect your photos and come create a scrapbook to share with family and friends! You will be amazed at the creativity you display. Each camper will end the week with a completed scrapbook, including stickers, pictures and captions. What a great way to preserve memories. Supplies included in the fee.

From Story to Stage July 28 – August 1
Calling all young heroes, villains, queens, kings, dragons, pirates, fairies and fantasy creatures! Whether you’ve never been on stage before or want to ‘brush up’ on some fun skills, this action packed acting camp will teach you to think on your feet with exciting theatre games and improvisation activities, movement exercises, character development and emotion play. Campers will create a world of adventure while staging favorite fairy tales, fables, ghost or fantasy stories. They will explore taking a story off the page and putting it on stage!

Super Science Sampler August 4 – 8
Science Explorers invites you to investigate the world of science in our Super Science Sampler 2008. Become a paleontologist as you dig, discover and theorize on what happened to the dinosaurs. Experiment with mini volcanic eruptions to learn about volcanoes, earthquakes and plate tectonics. Next, investigate if the hand is really quicker than the eye with various fun optical illusions. Lastly, explore a wizard’s laboratory to learn the science behind the magic.

Stage Combat August 11 –15
This exciting camp will introduce young performers to the safety and artistry of theatrical stage combat! Working with a certified Fight Choreographer, campers will learn the ‘behind-the-scenes’ art of stage falling, giving and receiving punches, and the basics of swordplay, and will collaborate together to create originals scenes that will leave audiences gasping! All combat is stage appropriate and non-violent.
