Create-A-Play Workshop (Feb. 22)
These workshops are
great for natural storytellers and young performers. At each workshop, students
will create a play from scratch using a theme that the group decides on
together. Students will learn the basics of story structure, character building
and working as an ensemble. By the end of the workshop, students will have a
short play to share with friends and family! Each workshop is unique from the
next! No theatre experience necessary!

High School Musical – For Kids!
Do you love to dance, sing or act? Do you dream of performing for your fans or want to learn how to dazzle an audience with your charm, like the stars of Disney’s High School Musical ? In this class, we’ll play with everything that makes a performance fantastic—from improvisation to acting exercises, theatrical and dance choreography, and singing those catchy songs. We’ll even make our own script loosely following the characters and events

Explore unique

Science Explorers’ Dynamite Dinosaurs
Enter the Science
Explorers’ time machine and journey back to a world where dinosaurs ruled the
earth. Learn about big and small dinosaurs, as well as other animals that roamed
the earth long before people. You’ll have a dynamite time studying fossils,
participating in hands-on experiments, creating art projects, playing games and
much more as we journey back in time.

Sabes JCC Youth Basketball - Travelling Team
Traveling Basketball Teams are formed on a first come, first serbved basis
(maximum 10 players per team). Teams are entered into teh MYAS Sunday Super
Saver Tournaments. Each team plays three games in a 5 hour time block on
seven selected Sundays. Game times range from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. or 1-6
p.m. There is an additional practice on Tuesday nights from 6-7
p.m. Practie timeson Sundays are 6-7 p.m.
Puffers (Session 2, March 2-May 1)
This introductory
class is designed for the nervous swimmer or very beginner. We will work on
submersions and back floats, and help them increase their comfort level in the
water. The foundation of streamlining (correct body position and form), will be
introduced. We will also work on building confidence in and around the water and
encourage the swimmers to have some fun in the pool.

Sharks (Session 2, March 2-May 1)
In this level,
swimmers are introduced to bilateral breathing. They also work on flip turns,
and learn to put arms, legs, and breathing together for the breast stroke and
butterfly. This is a great class for your child to take if they have any
interest in the Sabes Stars Swim Team. They can brush up on all four competitive
strokes, as well as work on some swim team

Sabes Stingrays Swim Club (Pre-competitive group, gr. 1-3, Mon and Wed., 3:30-4:40 p.m.)
The Minneapolis JCC Swim Club the Sabes Stingrays is a pre-competitive/competitive (register for competitive below)below). We have two different groups of swimmers who attend two different practice times during the week, and all meet together on Sundays. Our pre-competitive group (grades 1-3), meets from 3:30 – 4:45p.m. Children participating from HMJDS will be picked up from school by the coaches. This practice is dedicated to teaching swimmers all about the sport of swimming. We will work on all four competitive strokes, refining them using drills and other techniques. Swimmers will also work on other skills related to swimming such as starts from the blocks, flip turns, streamlines, and much more. This practice will swim around 1,000 yards each time we meet, but the focus is primarily on skill acquisition not distance. If you have a child who is interested in the sport of swimming and wants to get involved, come join us in the pool!
**Swimming Ability Requirement First Practice: Swimmers must be able to swim front crawl comfortably for 25 yards (one length), and back crawl comfortably for 25 yards.
If you are unsure about your child’s ability to complete the requirements, or are unsure which practice would be most valuable to attend, please call the Aquatics Director to schedule a time to have your swimmers abilities measured. Families with siblings in both practices, there is a second study hall option for swimmers in the first practice. If a swimmer must wait for a sibling to finish the second practice, they have the option of attending a study hall session from 4:45 – 6:00. (Register as a seperate class below.)
This group will have the opportunity to compete in swim meets throughout the season. Participation in swim meets is not required but encouraged. Sabes Stingrays Swim Club (Competitive group, gr. 4+, Mon and Wed., 5-6 p.m.)
Our competitive group (grades 4 and above) swim from 4:45 – 6:00 p.m. Swimmers coming from HMJDS will spend the first hour after school in study hall working on their homework. Once in the pool, this group will focus on refining strokes as well, but also beginning to build endurance and swimmers muscles. Much of the aspects of the first practice are present in this practice, with the added distance. This group will swim between 1,000 and 3,000 yards each practice. We’ll work with the pace clock, spending time on sprinting, as well as distance swimming. If you have a child whose ready to take swimming to the sport level; whose interested in competing, this is the practice to join.
**Swimming Ability Second Practice: Swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards on their front with a noticeable rhythmic breathing pattern, and 50 yards on their back. Some rudimentary knowledge of breaststroke should be present.
