Tychman Shapiro Gallery: Time and Place
June 12 – August 28, 2008

The Gallery celebrates the artwork of Lisa Gross and Varda Freier Levy, two artists living in Israel. Lisa Gross’s installation features over fifty assembled figures from found materials such as rusty metal, tin cans and car bumpers. The figures are primitive reflecting an earlier time. They recycling of materials is a metaphor for history repeating itself and the cyclical nature of war. Levy features her charcoal drawings that capture the texture and essence of Israel’s landscapes.
