Opening Night: Outrageous Comedy with Julie Goldman
With Special Guest, Laura Thorne
Help us kick off the 3rd annual Minneapolis Jewish Humor
Festival with "Kick-Ass Comedian" (NY Press) Julie Goldman, star of three
seasons of LOGO's Big Gay Sketch Show and winner of the 2008 NEWNOWNEXT
Brink of Fame Comic Award, and the 2007 MAC Award for Best Headlining Comedian
in NYC. Julie glides effortlessly between hilarious folk singer and stand-up
comedienne extraordinaire, and has been garnering massive attention around the
country performing stand up in clubs and colleges, headlining various shows including
appearances on Comedy Central and with Lewis Black's Root of all Evil. She
has performed at Montreal's prestigious Just for Laughs comedy festival
and on Broadway in Laughing Liberally. She also recently launched a live
monthly all-female comedy line-up called Julie Goldman's Offensive Women in
LA where she has enlisted the best and most outrageous female comics in the
world.
Laura Thorne began working as a comic in 2007 at
the suggestion of her former boss, who upon firing her, recommended she pursue
standup comedy as it seemed a better fit than the corporate world.
Devastated, broke, and deeply humbled, Laura began performing standup comedy in
Washington, DC and throughout the East Coast. Laura now lives in
Minneapolis where she regularly performs standup and improvisational comedy for
corporate events, charities, and comedy clubs. No longer devastated or
broke (but still humble as her mother is her manager), Laura is a rising star
on the Minneapolis comedy scene.
Recommended for ages 18 and up (language/content).
