Youth Classes

Drawing, Painting & Printmaking!
Grades K–3
Monday, September 13, 3:30-4:15 pm
& Monday, September 20, 3:30-4:15 pm
Experiment with drawing, painting and printing techniques while learning about the elements of art; line, color and texture. We will draw with pencils and oil pastel, paint with tempera at easels and make prints of our drawings using printing blocks and ink. Fee includes materials; taught by Jeanne Aaron.

Comedy Central – Improvisation and Acting
Grades K–2
Monday, September 20, 3:30-4:15 pm
Do you ever wonder how your favorite movie stars got to be so funny? Do you like to make people laugh? This class is not only full of laughs, but it also will teach you to think on your feet and learn some advanced skills of acting, improvisation, and physical comedy. Develop and rehearse funny scenes while learning a comedic ‘bag of tricks’. Perform for friends and family on the last day!

Stage Combat
Grades 3–5

Monday, September 20, 3:30-4:15 pm
This exciting class will introduce young performers to the safety and artistry of theatrical stage combat. Working with a certified Fight Choreographer, students will learn the ‘behindthe- scenes’ art of stage falling, giving and receiving punches, and the basics of swordplay, and will collaborate together to create original scenes that will leave audiences gasping. All combat is stage appropriate and non-violent with safety as a top priority.

Classical Ballet with Joy
Grades K–2
Wednesday, September 15, 3:30-4:15 pm
For the serious young dancer, we invite you to come learn the fundamentals of ballet by using the world around you in an exploration of movement and rhythm. You will be exposed to early techniques and dance vocabulary while making connections between your imagination and your body. New and returning students are welcome! Instructor: Joy Langer

Stomp & Step
Grades 3–5
Thursday, September 16, 3:45-4:30 pm
Combining hip hop, STOMP-style percussion, and break dancing, this energizing new class will teach you to find your inner rhythm while composing, choreographing, and performing original percussive music and dance steps. Great for boys and girls, this 10-week class will expose you to some of the history and origins of break dance, hip hop, and STOMP techniques and footwork. If possible, bring knee pads! Loose clothing recommended.

Harmony Roads Level 1 - Growing with Music!
Ages 4–6 with required parent
Monday, September 20, 5-6 pm
This course is carefully constructed for children to learn the basic building blocks of music.
Emphasis is on ear training, singing, learning keyboard basics, ensemble and rhythm activities, movement, and music creativity. This exceptional course gives the student “inner hearing”, which makes transposing, improvisation, and composing easily accessible. Class is open to new students only, and students will be expected to continue the course in the spring. Parental participation required. Fee includes books, CD, and other supplies.

Yoga for Kids
Pre-k–2
Tuesday, September 14, 12:45-1:30 pm

Develop body awareness, positive sense of self, balance and flexibility through this yoga class for children. Students will learn yoga through a variety of activities such as meditation, enlivening music, stories and games. Yoga mats are provided. Instructor: Meggan Ellingboe

Kids, Get Moving!
Age 4–5
Wednesday, September 15, 12:45-1:30 & 3:45-4:30 pm
This class encourages positive skill development, like balance and coordination, through sporting activities such as throwing, catching and kicking. Participants will be active and energized for the entire class. Instructor: Leslie Fhima.

Ultimate Frisbee
Grade 3–7
Sunday, September 26, 11:15 am-12:15 pm
Ultimate Frisbee is a non-contact sport combining continual movement with the action of cutting, passing and scoring. Participants in this class will learn the basics of game play and throwing techniques, like forehand, backhand and hammer throws.

Flag Football
Grade 1–4
Sunday, September 26, 10-11 am
Experienced coaches will lead this class. Participants will learn the basics of football including rules, throwing and receiving, deflagging and defensive positioning.

Log Rolling
All ages
Sunday, September 19, 12-1 pm

This class is a great way to improve balance, concentration and agility while having a great time practicing a sport that so few have the opportunity in which to participate. Come and join us for this new and exciting addition to the Aquatics class repertoire. Prerequisite: none

Family Fit Zone (NEW TIME)
youth ages 5–12
Family life is a habit-based endeavor. The world spins so fast and only engrained habits last. In order to set habits like health, effort and playful hobbies, families need a way to slow the spinning globe and enjoy each other’s athleticism and fitness. I n Family Fit Zone, these habits can be established in an environment that is one part playground and one part workout, based as much in games and play as exercises and skills The idea is to show the whole family that fitness is not a boring, just-get-through-it activity. Rather, it will become a fun-for-the-whole-family, lifetime hobby. Drop-in only.

Fall 2010 Body Transformation Challenge
18+
Thursday, September 16, 8-9 pm
Do you have a desire for change? Join the Body Transformation Challenge, a 10-week challenge where you will partner to accomplish your health and wellness goals. Compete on a team of two to gain points for daily exercise, weekly nutrition log, body composition changes, weekly challenges, and attending clinics (Nutrition, Goal-Setting, Fitness, Life Coaching). Cash and prizes awarded to the top three teams.

Boot Camp
18+
Wednesday, September 22, 4-5 pm
& Wednesday, September 29, 4-5 pm
This total body workout is sure to make your heart beat faster and your muscles ask for forgiveness. Boot camp will incorporate body weight, medicine balls, bands and a variety of fitness tools to perform the exercises.

Nutrition 101
18+
Sunday, September 19, 12:30-1:30 pm
Learn the foundations to creating the right diet for your lifestyle. In this comfortable group setting you will learn how to set the right nutrition goals for yourself, what makes up a healthy diet, how to make sense out of food labels, how to be a smart grocery shopper, what the right portion size is, and how to make good choices when eating out. This is a 6-week program that will give you the basic tools you need to shape up your eating habits.

Stretch and Release
18+
Tuesday, September 21, 6-7 pm
In the class we will release those tight muscles through myofascial release, a soft tissue massage, by using tennis balls and foam rollers. Then we will stretch those muscles to retain that improved mobility and flexibility achieved from release.

Wellness Coaching for Women
18+ Women
Tuesday, September 21, 6-7 pm
Combining physical activity and motivational programming, this class is structured to help achieve their goals of both body and mind fitness. We will sample a variety of physical activity such Pilates, core strength, circuit training, and weight lifting to develop physical agility and strength, and we will work together to create motivational goals—clarify values and changing the ‘I can’t’ to ‘I can’. Burn maximum fat and calories while increasing strength, flexibility and balance with Kettlebells. Men and women, novice to experienced, ages 18–99 are encouraged to join. Kettlebells provide all-around fitness with one tool; you’ll see and feel results in a matter of weeks. An ACE Kettlebell study found that participants burned 20 calories a minute, the equivalent to running a 6-minute mile pace or uphill cross country skiing.

Balance and Fall Prevention
18+

As we age, our sight, hearing, muscle strength, coordination and reflexes change, weakening our balance. One out of every three individuals, aged 65 years and older, falls each year. YOU do not have to be one of them! Join the JCC Balance Program to learn postural, gait and balance exercises that will benefit you during all daily activities.


Volleyball Open Gym

Come play volleyball Tuesday nights this fall! Players create their own teams. There are no officials, players call their own fouls. We will provide a court supervisor. Drop-in only.
