theatre and arts camps

The Sabes JCC’s summer theatre and arts camps teach the various fundamentals of theatre, music, dance and art by offering a variety of in-depth programs in an inclusive Jewish environment. This innovative and unique summer experience provides Jewish and non-Jewish youth with excellent theatre and arts education that promotes growth for all abilities. Our goal is to help young artists gain self-confidence, poise, and stage experience while having fun, making new friends, and exploring Jewish culture and values.

seussical - the musical! (entering grades 7-12)

Book by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty
Music by Stephen Flaherty; Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens
Co-Conceived by Eric Idle
Based on the works of Dr. Seuss

A FULLY STAGED PRODUCTION directed by Adam Arnold!
July 5–July 29
9 am–4 pm

In this fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza—which is now one of the most-performed shows in America—all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters are brought to life, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big imagination, Jojo. Seussical explores the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community.

This intensive four-week program will teach the fundamentals of theater, music, and dance while creating this fully staged production. Professional theatre artists will coach all participants on their acting, dancing, and singing skills and everyone has the opportunity to perform in the show. In addition to staging the show, participants will engage in daily theater and improv games to build confidence and create vibrant characters on stage and participate in workshops that teach behind-the-scenes aspects of theater such as costume and set design. Campers will also go swimming in the JCC's outdoor pool and hopefully gain meaningful friendships through the theater ensemble they'll build! This innovative summer experience provides youth with excellent theater arts training, promoting personal and artistic growth, and is a great choice for both experienced and novice performers who are committed to improving their skills and eager to learn about the theatrical process!
