The Machers Community Dinner, culminating our day of golf and games, is a celebration of the Sabes JCC’s role in bringing the broadest spectrum of the community together to share moments of community engagement. The proceeds from the entire event support scholarships - enabling participation in the widest array of JCC programs – making it possible for everyone to be involved at the JCC, despite financial circumstances.

Oren z”l and Sharron Steinfeldt

Oren z”l and Sharron Steinfeldt shared a long history of community involvement and giving in so many different ways.

Oren volunteered for the St. Louis Park Jewish Youth Services in 1949 and Sharron began her first volunteer job at age 12 with the Red Cross caring for children who were housed in a shelter after a flood on the West Side Flats of St. Paul.

Both Oren and Sharron have played significant roles as dedicated leaders of the Sabes JCC. Sharron served on the board for 2 years as chair of the youth services committee and Oren served as a board member for 21 years (!!!!) and served on a committee that raised the money to buy land for the J and to assess the programming vision for a future JCC.

Oren’s community involvement included National Jewish Community Relations Council board member & president, life member of the Jewish War Veterans, American Legion, Chamber of Commerce Bloomington, Boys Scouts of America, Jewish National Fund board member & president, School for Social Development (mentally and physically handicapped) chair, Minneapolis Jewish Federation Board of Directors, Young Leadership Council, Department of Education of MN Chair, Minnesota Senior Golf Association President, Community faculty at metropolitan State University & Foundation board, and more!

Sharron has played a key role as a National Council of Jewish Woman board member, vice presidents, and community projects, National Conference of Christians and Jews board member, recipient of the National Conference of Christians & Jews Brotherhood and Sisterhood Award, KUOM Advisory Board, Minneapolis Federation for Jewish Service, recipient of the Amos S. Deinard Award for Distinguished Leadership and president of the Jewish Historical Society of the Upper Midwest (JHSUM).

As proud sponsor members of the JCC and the community, they have enjoyed and participated in the many outstanding programs developed by the Sabes JCC.

“Oren and I were overjoyed to see how our efforts have paid such great dividends for our children and grandchildren and all the families that are served by the Jewish Community Center of Minneapolis,” said Sharron. “Oren and I shared a mutual appreciation of the act of giving and helping others. I know that he would be humbled by this honor.”
